We love BREAD!

In March, Year 5 completed their Design and Technology project on bread.

We did lots of research into the bread making process and tasted different breads from around the world - including Garlic Naan Bread from India and Olive Bread from Greece.

After this, we designed our own bread to enjoy with our family members (thinking carefully about flavour combinations and shape) before making the bread.

Everyone agreed that making it was easier than expected. We simply mixed the dry indredients before adding water and kneeded it until it was a soft, elastic dough. An hour later, the dough had risen and was ready for baking.

They looked amazing and (some) tasted great.

The Rise & Shine TV Show

We had an amazing day at the E-Learning Centre. Everyone in Year 5 contributed to the programme with some children presenting and others helping to produce. Well done to both classes for their hard work and creative ideas. To finish off our Film Narrative topic, the children wrote a report about their day in Big Write. Here are 2 excellent examples. We went to the fantastic E-learning Centre on the 1st March 2012. I was very excited when I first entered the huge building. Everywhere I looked there were massive, white Apple computers. I felt quite nervous. We were there because we were going to make a cool morning breakfast news show called ‘Rise and Shine TV’.
We were all divided up into groups of six and told what to do. My group’s fun task was to film a weather report and a music report about Rihanna’s latest album. I was the weather girl and I thought my task was very intriguing because I got to go in front of the camera which was great fun.
While people were in front of the camera being filmed, other people controlled the camera, the auto script and the green screen. I thought that all of the technical equipment was very unique and interesting because it is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see technology like this.
After lunch we watched the presenters being filmed because they were linking all of our reports together. Also, we got to watch the individual reports back. When we watched the reports on a huge screen I was very proud of myself, but also a little bit embarrassed. The E-learning Centre was so amazing.

Selin's Film Making Report

Earlier on this week we went to the E-Learning Centre to make the 'Rise and Shine' show. When I first entered the E-Learning centre, I knew I’d been there before. It was better than I remembered it, as I was in Year three when I last went there. The people that worked with us were-David, James, Rory, Marilyn and Reece. They were very helpful and kind! The aim of the day was to make the show with five different segments- London 2012 Olympics, Fair-trade fruit tasting, Sport Relief, The Oscars and the weather.
The group I was in was the Fair-trade fruit tasting. Fair-trade is a charity where they interview farmers to see if they have a fair pay of what their fruit is worth. Fair-trade persuades people to give the farmers a fair pay. We cut up six different kinds of fruit from around the world- apples, pears, melon, mango, kiwi and strawberries. They were delicious!
While we were filming it, I had a go at being the camera women and director. We also looked at where all the fruits came from on the internet. I really enjoyed being camera woman and tasting the fruit, especially the mango… That was my favourite!
At lunch time, we all had our packed lunch and went outside for some fresh air. Most people played games, but I just chatted with a couple of my friends.
After lunch the whole class went into the green room where me and Kai Frost did our presenting parts. We had to do about four takes because I kept forgetting what to say… It was so funny! I opened the show and Kai closed it.
I would recommend the E-Learning centre to anyone because it was really exciting and fun.
