During the Autumn term, one of our science
topics in Year 5 is “Changing Sounds!”, a topic based on musical instruments,
how sounds are made, change in pitch and travel through the air.
Your homework project this half term is to
make a working musical instrument that you can play and that changes pitch.
Remember that there are lots of different
types of instruments that make sounds in different ways:
· String
instruments - plucking, hitting or strumming
· Percussion
instruments - banging or hitting
· Wind
instruments - blowing
However, you need to be able to change the pitch
of the instrument - it needs to be able to make either a higher or lower
sound than the one that it initially produces.
Here are some websites that you can check at
home to help you come up with ideas:
Remember that you can decorate your musical
instruments to help make them bright and colourful and stand out!
